ABOUT
The Media Arts Center

Located in Ballantyne, just 20 minutes from uptown, our school focuses exclusively on the core skills needed for filmmaking, broadcasting, and social media. Our instructors are industry professionals, and you'll learn using the same equipment they use on the job. It's a fast-paced, hands-on program with four days a week of intensive training in classrooms, studios, and on set. After 12 weeks, you won't have a traditional degree, but you will have a portfolio showcasing your work – a short film, a news package, or a social media following with real marketing value.

Why Media Arts Craves Hands-On Learning

The media arts industry places a premium on practical skills and tangible experience. Here's why:

  1. Rapidly Evolving Technology: The tools and techniques used in film, broadcasting, and social media are constantly evolving. Hands-on experience ensures students are up-to-date with the latest industry standards.

  2. Creative Problem-Solving: Media arts projects often involve overcoming technical challenges and finding creative solutions. Hands-on learning fosters this problem-solving mindset and adaptability.

  3. Collaboration and Communication: Media production is a collaborative effort. Hands-on projects provide opportunities to work in teams, honing communication and interpersonal skills vital in the industry.

  4. Building a Portfolio: A strong portfolio is essential for breaking into media arts. Hands-on learning allows students to create tangible work samples that showcase their skills and creativity to potential employers.

  5. Real-World Experience: The best way to learn the nuances of the industry is by doing. Hands-on training, especially on real sets or in professional studios, bridges the gap between theory and practice.

In essence, hands-on learning provides the practical experience, technical proficiency, and creative problem-solving skills that employers in the media arts industry value most.
